The Amazing Benefits of Green Tea.

Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions
-Dalai Lama

Happiness starts with a healthy mind and a healthy body. It is vital you are providing your body with the vitamins and minerals it needs.

With this in mind my happiness tip for today is - start drinking green tea

Green tea is often referred to as the healthiest drink on the planet and regarded as a 'superfood'. This is due to it being packed full of nutrients, vitamins and antioxidants.

The simple step of drinking a cup or two of green tea a day can have a dramatically positive change on your day to day life.

Studies have shown that:

  • Green tea increases the metabolism and therefore helps with weight loss
  • Green tea reduces bad cholesterol in the blood
  • Green tea can improve concentration levels and overall brain function
  • Green tea can help to prevent certain illnesses (including some cancers)

For the past couple of months I have been trying my best to drink 2-4 cups of green tea every day and I have had very positive results. I found that my skin is much clearer and brighter, I feel much more awake during the day, I have more energy than before and overall I feel more healthy. I can not recommend green tea highly enough.

Green tea is extremely easy to make and can either be made using a traditonal teabag or using loose tea leaves in a special leave straining teapot. All you need to do is add hot water and leave the tea to infuse. However make sure to not let the tea infuse for too long (ideal time 2-3mins) as strong green tea can be bitter.

My current favourite brand of green tea is 'Clippers Fair Trade Pure Green Tea' - it doesn't have too strong a taste and their 80 bag tea bag box is great value for money. However there are loads of great quality green teas available in almost all supermarkets and local stores. If you find you don't like the taste of green tea alone there is a wide variety of mixed green teas available including - mint green tea, apple green tea, lemon green tea and even caramel or ginger bread green tea.

Top Tip: Green tea can be quite high in caffeine which makes it a great substitute for coffee and helps to keep you awake and give you energy throughout the day. However too many cups might keep you up at night therefore I recommend changing to a decaf green tea if you are having a cup in the evening or at night.

Why not start adding green tea into your life and see its great benefits for yourself.
